Kyoto Meiji 1900s Unknown

Monju Hotel (文珠ホテル) in Miyazu (宮津市), Kyoto Prefecture, early 1900s.

The trees on the protruding bit of land on the left are part of Amanohashidate, considered to be one of Japan’s three most beautiful sights.

Hidden behind the trees on the right is the entrance gate of Chionji Temple (智恩寺 山門).

In 1923 (Taisho 12) the Kaisenbashi bridge (旋回橋) was built at this spot to connect Amanohashidate with the mainland.

The area used to be known as Tango Province.
