PURCHASE A LICENSE

Kanagawa Meiji 1900s Ueda Studio

Children in Hodogaya (保土ケ谷), near Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Hodogaya-juku (程ヶ谷宿) was the fourth of the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido. There was a stone Buddha statue here that travelers prayed to for safety while traveling along the Tokaido.

The area is now a ward of Yokohama and hosts the Yokohama Commonwealth War Cemetery, the only war cemetery in Japan administered by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
