161215-0040 - Yakatabune Pleasure Boat

PURCHASE A LICENSE

Tokyo Meiji 1890s Unknown

A small group of people on a Yakatabune (屋形船), a roofed boat used as pleasure boat, at Mukojima in Tokyo.

This image is a variation of image 423 listed in the catalogue of Japanese photographer Nobukuni Enami (江南 信國, 1859–1929).

It is unlikely to have actually been photographed by him and has been variously attributed to Shinichi Suzuki (鈴木 真一, 1835–1918), Kimbei Kusakabe (日下部 金兵衛, 1841–1934) and Kozaburo Tamamura (玉村 康三郎, 1856–1923?).
