161216-0006 - Boat on Nakashima River

PURCHASE A LICENSE

Nagasaki Meiji 1890s Unknown

Wooden boat on the Nakashima River (中島川) in Nagasaki.

In the back, the Yorozubashi Bridge (万橋) is visible. Originally built in 1678 (Enpo 6), it was replaced in 1801 (Kansei 13). In 1915 (Taisho 4), the stone bridge on this image was replaced with a concrete bridge with iron girders.

The area on the right is now the streetcar line between Nigiwaibashi Bridge (賑橋) and Nishihamano-machi (西浜町).
