Kobe | Meiji | 1900s | Sakaeya Studio |
Kaigandori (also known as the Bund) in the foreign settlement of Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. The photographer stood near the Meriken Hatoba Pier. The building with the spires is at 2 Kaigandori and housed the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank, now better known as HSBC. The building with the American flag was the location of the US consulate. The large building in the back is the Oriental Hotel on 6 Kaigandori. It moved here in 1907 (Meiji 40). So, this photo was taken sometime after 1907. |
