Gunma | Meiji | 1900s | Nobukuni Enami |
Three young Japanese women in kimono stand under a wisteria trellis. The slide’s caption locates it Ushijima, Tokyo. Ushijima is actually in Saitama, not Tokyo. Additionally, the caption of another slide with exactly the same image places the scene in Maebashi (前橋), Gunma Prefecture. Gunma is likely the correct location. It might have been at Maebashi’s Amanoen Garden (天野藤園) which had a pond. Original title: S 208 Wisterias in full blossoms, Ushijima, Tokyo. |
