Yokohama | Meiji | 1880s | Unknown |
Kanagawa Station (神奈川駅) on the first railway of Japan, which connected Yokohama with Tokyo. Construction was started in 1870 (Meiji 3), and the railway was officially opened on June 12, 1872 (Meiji 5). Near Yokohama, the railway line was built on reclaimed land connecting the city with Kanagawa. The houses in the foreground line the old Tokaido highway in Kanagawa. The built-up area in the far background is Yokohama. This is the general location of what is today Minato Mirai 21. |
