A young man performs kyudo (Japanese archery) at Sanjusangendo (三十三間堂), a Buddhist temple in Higashiyama, Kyoto, famous for its one thousand life-size statues.

The name literally means Hall with Thirty Three Spaces between Columns. The main deity is the Thousand Armed Kannon.
