Yokohama Meiji 1870s Unknown

The Kannai foreign settlement in Yokohama as seen from Yamate Yatosaka.

The big building in the center right is the Grand Hotel, opened on August 16, 1873 (Meiji 6).

The residential home with the steep roof, in the center left, was for many years the residence of Dr. James C. Hepburn, known for the Hepburn romanization system of the Japanese language.
