Tokyo Meiji 1880s Kimbei Kusakabe

A few women in kimono are waiting at the ferry port on the Sumida River in Mukojima, Tokyo.

The ferry shuttled people between Asakusa (in Taito Ward) and Kukojima (in Sumida Ward).

Instead of a ferry, there is a Yakatabune (屋形船), a roofed boat used as pleasure boat.

Two cherry trees are in bloom, placing this scene in early Spring.
