Tokyo | Meiji | 1870s | Baron Raimund von Stillfried |
Two rickshaws in front of a teahouse at Mt. Atago (愛宕山) in Tokyo in the early 1870s. In the back, the viewing tower at Atago Shrine (愛宕神社) can be seen. Mt. Atago is only 26 meters above sea-level, but it offered a famous panoramic view of Tokyo and was a favorite spot for watching the New Year’s sunrise, as well as moon and snow viewing. IMPORTANT |
