Kumamoto Meiji 1900s Unknown

A dilapidated Kumamoto Castle in Kumamoto, formerly called Higo Province.

The castle’s origins date back to 1467. The current tenshukaku (castle keep) is a concrete replica built in 1960 (Showa 35).

It was badly damaged by strong earthquakes in 1889 (Meiji 22) and 2016 (Heisei 28), but was restored both times.
