Interior of the Hotel New Grand in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. Named after the Grand Hotel destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 (Taisho 12), this hotel was opened in 1927 (Showa 2). During the Occupation the hotel was used as accommodation by American troops; General Douglas MacArthur actually spent his first night in Japan here. |
