Osaka Showa 1930s Unknown

This postcard advertises the Nankai Building, home of Takashimaya Department Store and Nankai Railway, in Osaka’s Minami district as the largest building in Osaka. The caption says “13,000 tsubo” (42,900 square meters).

Designed by Michio Kuno (久野節, 1882-1962), the building was completed in 1932 (Showa 7). In 2010, the building was registered as an Osaka City Landscape Resource (大阪市都市景観資源). It still houses Takashimaya Department Store.
