Outside Showa 1920s Unknown

Togyu (闘牛, Japanese bull fighting), also known as bull sumo or ushi-zumi (牛相撲).

Tohgyu is held in Okinawa, Iwate, Niigata, Shimane, Ehime and Kagoshima prefectures. It dates back to at least the 17th century.

Matches are between two bulls who lock horns and force the other to give up ground. Great care is taken to prevent the bulls from harming each other or themselves.
